Medtech Maldives donates 1,000 antibody test kits to IGMH

Medtech Maldives Private Limited has donated 1,000 antibody test kits to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Antibody tests show whether someone has had an infection and recovered from COVID-19. Medtech said the donations were the latest antibody test kits from Abbott which is amongst the biggest 500 healthcare companies in the US. With the donation from Medtech, IGMH can now run 100 to 200 antibody tests per hour on Abbott's Architect Laboratory i-systems.

A research done by the School of Medicine at the University of Washington claims Abbott antibody testing to generate 99.9% accurate results with a sensitivity rate of 100%. Medtech is the exclusive distributor of Abbott in the Maldives.

In addition to the test kits, Medtech also donated Abbott i-STAT system, which is an advanced blood analyser that provides lab-quality results in minutes for faster patient care.

Medtech is one of the biggest suppliers of medical equipment in the Maldives. The company has supplied medical supplies to the government following the COVID-19 pandemic and it is currently working to arrange chartered flights from Sri Lankan Airlines to import ventilators required for the Maldives.

The project to supply 50 ventilators to the government was awarded to Medtech at a cost of USD 903,460 on March 19 under the Single Source Procurement policy.
