COVID-19 cases in the Maldives rises to 862

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 862.

HPA said 288 Maldivians and 574 foreigners, including 478 Bangladeshis and 63 Indians have tested positive for COVID-19. In total, 829 individuals are undergoing treatment, including 5 individuals who are undergoing treatment at the DH11 facility at Dharumavantha Hospital. Another 2 foreigners are being treated abroad after contracting the disease while in the Maldives.

Maldives has recorded three deaths from COVID-19 so far, including an 83-year-old Maldivian woman, an 88-year-old Maldivian man, and a 33-year-old Bangladeshi man. A total of 30 individuals, including 17 Maldivians and 13 foreigners, have made a full recovery from COVID-19 in the Maldives.

HPA said there are 1,521 individuals in quarantine facilities and 719 individuals in isolation facilities. HPA also revealed 11,775 samples have been taken, with 10,552 samples testing negative and 438 samples pending results.

HPA has extended the State of Public Health Emergency declared in the Maldives until May 31 and has also extended the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male' Region until May 14. HPA expects the COVID-19 outbreak to hit its peak between May 15 and May 31.
