Number of cases does not represent the dire situation: Health Minister

Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has stated the country must not be complacent in containing the spread of COVID-19, despite the hopeful signs following social distancing and staying indoors.

Speaking to PSM News, Health Minister Ameen said although the daily changes in numbers are favourable, the public must strictly practice social distancing and follow the instructions from the authorities despite the number of confirmed cases decreasing on some days. Highlighting the support received from the public so far, the minister said a large population of Male' City practices social distancing and follows the instructions given by authorities, which is a huge motivation for the healthcare professionals as they work effortlessly to contain the spread of the pandemic. He also said the number of contacts has reduced ever since the public started following the instructions and advice.

Due to the grim projections towards the end of the month, Minister Ameen called the public to be patient, adding the administration is taking special measures to reduce COVID-19 cases even when the spread hits the peak. He said the solidarity and support from the public must be continued to ease the efforts of professionals, volunteers and other stakeholders involved in curbing the spread of COVID-19.
