COVID-19 cases in the Maldives rises to 968

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 968.

HPA said 324 Maldivians and 644 foreigners, including 511 Bangladeshis and 98 Indians have tested positive for COVID-19. In total, 922 individuals are undergoing treatment, including 12 patients who are undergoing treatment at Tree Top Hospital and the DH11 facility at Dharumavantha Hospital. Another 2 foreigners are being treated abroad after contracting the disease while in the Maldives.

Maldives has recorded 4 deaths from COVID-19, including an 83-year-old Maldivian woman, an 88-year-old Maldivian man, an 80-year-old Maldivian man, and a 33-year-old Bangladeshi man. A total of 40 individuals, including 26 Maldivians and 14 foreigners, have made full recoveries from COVID-19 in the Maldives. Meanwhile, there are currently 1,403 individuals in quarantine facilities and 896 individuals in isolation facilities.

HPA has extended the State of Public Health Emergency declared in the Maldives until May 31 and has also extended the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male' Region until May 14. HPA expects the COVID-19 outbreak to hit its peak between May 15 and May 31.
