Health Protection Agency (HPA) has extended the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male' Region for an additional 14-days.
On April 15, a 24-hour lockdown was imposed in the Greater Male' Region following the detection of COVID-19 in Male' City, which was extended on April 16. A wider lockdown was imposed for further two weeks on April 17 to contain COVID-19 and curb the community spread in the capital city. HPA has now extended the lockdown until May 28. This is fourth-time HPA has extended the lockdown in the Greater Male' Region.
During the lockdown, HPA has banned unauthorised individuals from going out, using public transportation including buses and ferries and travelling in and out of Male', Villimale', Hulhumale', Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu. However, HPA revealed the restrictive measures are eased on the Maldives Police Service (MPS), Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), healthcare professionals, and pass holders of the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC).
HPA has urged to follow the advice and instructions given by the relevant authorities. HPA has also raised the alert level in the Greater Male' Region to Red. HPA has also cautioned the COVID-19 pandemic will hit its peak in the Maldives towards the end of the month.
Furthermore, a State of Public Health Emergency was declared in the Maldives for a period of 30 days on March 12 which has been extended until May 31.
