The Island Council of Himmafushi, Kaafu Atoll has revealed three cases of COVID-19 have been reported from the drug rehabilitation center in the island.
Himmafushi Council said Health Protection Agency (HPA) has been obtaining random samples from the island for testing, as part of the efforts to identify the level of community transmission. As such, the council said 3 samples obtained from the Himmafushi Drug Rehabilitation Centre have tested positive for COVID-19.
HPA is currently trying to identify the cause of COVID-19 transmission inside the rehabilitation facility. In this regard, the direct contacts of the individuals who tested positive are being traced and tested for the disease. The island has also been brought under monitoring.
The drug rehabilitation centre in Himmafushi has the capacity of treating 170 people at the same time. Several recovering drug addicts in the Maldives have been undergoing treatment at the facility.
