Health Protection Agency (HPA) has provided medical assistance for 80 expatriates living in places under monitoring due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Male’ City.
HPA stated delegations of the agency visited the expatriate accommodation facilities placed under monitoring in the capital, in order to identify the conditions of expatriates living in the facilities and to provide assistance where required. As such, HPA said 80 expatriates have been provided medical assistance through these visits.
As part of the efforts to reduce the risk of community transmission of COVID-19, 33 overcrowded accommodation facilities were placed under monitoring in Male’. A number of expatriates living in these facilities have tested positive for COVID-19, and have been transferred to quarantine facilities. Several expatriates have also been transferred to temporary shelters established by the government in Hulhumale’ and Gulhifalhu.
Majority of the COVID-19 cases detected in the Maldives have been expatriate workers living in congested spaces.
