National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed three Indian nationals who were repatriated from the Maldives have tested positive for COVID-19.
Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the three Indian nationals worked in Bison Maldives Private Limited. He said their contact tracing is underway in the Maldives. He added efforts are also underway to confirm reports of other Indian nationals testing positive for COVID-19 after they were repatriated from the Maldives.
On May 8, the Indian government began a special operation to evacuate stranded Indians. As such, 698, 202 and 588 Indians have been repatriated on three trips respectively following the community spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives. High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Sanjay Sudhir has said a total of 1,800 Indian nationals will be repatriated from the Maldives.
In total, 104 Indians have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives, the third highest nationality after Bangladeshis and Maldivians.
