WHO donates additional COVID-19 test kits and PPE

World Health Organisation (WHO) has donated an additional 10,000 COVID-19 test kits and personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Maldives.

Following the donation, Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen thanked WHO Representative to the Maldives Dr. Arvind Mathur and expressed appreciation over the constant support the organisation is rendering during the pandemic. The donations come at a time the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has announced its plans to increase testing as COVID-19 is projected to hit peak towards the end of May.

Including the latest donation, the testing kits donated by WHO now totals 21,000 and according to WHO, the number will go even higher in the near future. In addition to the kits, the organisation also donated gowns, face marks, gloves and face shields.

WHO has been very supportive in the efforts to contain COVID-19 in the Maldives. The organisation has also been offering other support such as assisting in attaining medical supply and equipment as well as arranging testing facilities across the country. Additionally, it has also been facilitating assistance from other international organisations.

NEOC is working to increase the testing capacity to at least 1,000 a day.
