National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed one more of the three expatriates who fled from the authorities after they tested positive for COVID-19 has been found.
Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the two individuals who tested positive from Vilimale' Detention Centre lived with the remaining expatriate who is yet to be found by the authorities. No further details about the missing individual were shared at the press conference.
NEOC previously said the authorities are seeking assistance from Maldives Police Service (MPS) in locating the missing individuals after they were understood to have fled on May 6 or 7. NEOC said, should MPS fail to locate the missing individuals, HPA will publicise personal information of the individual, under the powers granted to the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Abubakur.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) is collecting random samples from individuals in containment sites in efforts to contain the community spread and mitigate the transfer of COVID-19 to other islands. Two third of the COVID-19 cases recorded in the Maldives are expatriates.
