National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has stated the COVID-19 tests conducted on samples obtained from Manadhoo, Noonu Atoll has revealed a recovered COVID-19 patient in the island.
Speaking at a press conference held at NEOC, Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said all 86 samples obtained from Manadhoo upon contact tracing of positive cases have tested negative for COVID-19. However, she revealed one individual was found to have recovered from COVID-19, as indicated by a positive Immunoglobin test.
Dr. Nazla stated Technical Advisory Group (TAG) has decided to extend the quarantine of all individuals tested from Manadhoo, despite the negative results. Noting the decision was made based on the detection of a recovered patient amongst them, the doctor said their quarantine period is being extended as a precautionary measure.
The first COVID-19 case from Manadhoo was detected on May 1. Although the individual was reported to have recovered from the disease, she passed away on May 21 due to other complications.
Meanwhile, nine more individuals from Manadhoo tested positive for COVID-19 on May 15. The island is still under monitoring by Health Protection Agency (HPA).
