Thailand has donated 10 mini ventilators to the Maldives to support the efforts of the country against COVID-19.
The ventilators were donated by the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang in Bangkok in collaboration with the government of Thailand. The donation was received by Ambassador of the Maldives in Thailand Mohamed Jinah.
Following the donation, Ambassador Jinah thanked the Thai government and the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology for the generous donation to assist the Maldives in the fight against COVID-19. He also acknowledged the hard work of Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and the foreign ministry in acquiring foreign aid amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ambassador had previously revealed efforts are ongoing to seek medical equipment and supplies from Thailand. As such, he noted the foreign ministry had provided a list of items required to the Maldives, after which several organisations in Thailand have been working on donating the items to the Maldives.
Last week, Thai-based hotel operator Minor Hotel Group donated a PCR machine to the Maldives to boost the testing capacity for COVID-19. The company is also donating 378.5 litres of hand sanitiser to the Maldives, which is expected to arrive by June 24.
Meanwhile, Thai travel agent Thitithip Thanyakulthip had donated 200 personal protective equipment (PPE) sets to the Maldives earlier this month.
