Agro National Corporation Limited has stated farmers are now able to sell their agricultural produce at a better value than before, upon the establishment of the corporation.
Agro National was established by the government to market agricultural produce from local farms and provide a better income for farmers. As such, the corporation has been supplying produce from islands to shops in Male’. The corporation began operations in April.
Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of Agro National, Haroon Rasheed, said the main objective of the corporation is to generate a better income for local farmers and increase agricultural production. Haroon said the feedback received from farmers has been positive, noting farmers are able to sell their produce at a better value than before. He noted approximately 800 shops have registered at the Agro National portal to buy agricultural produce.
The managing director said there are difficulties in transporting items from islands to Male’ due to the travel restrictions caused by COVID-19. However, he acknowledged the support and cooperation of local councils in facilitating transport.
