MTCC completes land reclamation in Huraa

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the land reclamation of Huraa, Kaafu Atoll.

The land reclamation and shore protection project was awarded to MTCC on July 28, 2018, at a cost of over USD 6.7 million and was completed in two phases. MTCC said phase one is valued at over USD 2.17 million and phase two is valued at over USD 4.59 million.

The state-owned company said the project included reclamation of 23 hectares of land, the construction of a 1,626-metre revetment, a 152-metre breakwater and 150-metre groynes. MTCC revealed the project has been completed, with demobilisation taking place on June 7.

The land reclamation and shore protection project in Huraa aims to solve lack of living space and land to begin new business ventures on the island.
