National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed two COVID-19 patients are undergoing treatment on ventilators in the Maldives.
Speaking at the daily press briefing, Dr. Ibrahim Afzal from the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) said currently 3 patients are undergoing treatment from the Tree Top Hospital and 8 patients undergoing treatment from the Hulhumale' Medical Facility. Dr. Afzal stated a patient in Tree Top Hospital and a patient in Hulhumale' Medical Facility are undergoing treatment on ventilators. The patients undergoing treatment on ventilators include a 77-year-old Maldivian woman and a 43-year-old Nepalese man.
A ventilator offers the best chance of survival for patients with the worst effects of COVID-19. A ventilator takes over the body's breathing process when a patient suffers from breathing difficulties when infected by COVID-19. So far, patients who required ventilators in the Maldives were under treatment for long-term diseases.
