World Health Organisation (WHO) has attested the quality of COVID-19 tests conducted in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
WHO has been monitoring the quality standards of COVID-19 tests conducted in different countries. In this regard, the organisation assesses the laboratories and equipment used for testing, by sending a group of samples with predetermined results to be tested. The PCR laboratory in IGMH achieved 100% from the assessment after it matched the results of all samples from WHO.
WHO has been assisting efforts to boost the testing capacity of the Maldives, donating test kits on multiple occasions since the disease was detected in the Maldives. The organisation is currently working with the government of the Maldives to establish testing facilities in five different regions of the country. Currently, COVID-19 testing is only available in Male' City and Addu City.
