HPA publishes guidelines for operating salons and barber shops

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has published the guidelines for operating salons and barber shops under the new normal conditions in the Maldives.

HPA is preparing to implement the third phase of easing the lockdown restrictions imposed in the Greater Male' Region due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the third phase will see the reopening of salons and barber shops, HPA has published the guidelines to operate such facilities under the new normal conditions.

The guideline states salons must allocate a maximum number of customers allowed inside at the same time to ensure a minimum distance of 3 feet can be maintained between customers. Safety instructions are required to be displayed in a location visible for all customers.

Meanwhile, face shields and gloves must be used if services are provided in close proximity. Aprons and towels are required to be washed and cleaned before reusing for another customer, while sponges and powder applicators are recommended to be disposable. Service has to be refused for any individual showing COVID-19 symptoms.

The guideline further states hand washing facilities and sanitisers must be available at the salon. If the salon provides self-service coffee or drinks, disposable cups must be placed for such uses. The salon must also provide the option of online payment.

HPA has requested salons and barber shops to ensure employees are familiar with the published guidelines before resuming services.
