Aasandha Company Limited has revealed 28 Maldivians have been transferred to India for advanced medical treatment.
The state-owned company administering and managing the national health insurance scheme stated the patients were transferred to India on June 29. Aasandha revealed the patients were accompanied by 2 doctors and 5 nurses to care for them during the journey.
The government of India facilitated the transfer of Maldivians in need of urgent treatment not available in the Maldives, upon the request of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. As per the public health regulations of India, all patients were tested for COVID-19 before departure. They must also undergo a quarantine period of 14 days and test for COVID-19 again before leaving India.
All patients transferred to India will seek treatment at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in Cochin, Kerala. They will undergo quarantine at an accommodation block inside the facility. Treatment will continue during the quarantine period.
Aasandha stated while 37 patients were initially scheduled to be transferred to India, 9 patients later decided not to travel due to different reasons. The company stated over 50 patients have been shortlisted to be transferred in the second flight to be operated to India.
