Maldives records 12th COVID-19 death

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced an 80-year-old COVID-19 patient has passed away in the Maldives.

HPA said the 80-year-old Maldivian male was undergoing treatment at the DH11 facility in Dharumavantha Hospital. He is the 12 COVID-19 related death recorded in the Maldives.

Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has revealed he belongs to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) cluster. The cluster originated from an Indonesian patient who died while undergoing treatment for cancer at the government-owned hospital. HEOC said 15 individuals including staff, patients and their aides have so far tested positive from IGMH.

The first COVID-19 death recorded in the Maldives was that of an 83-year-old Maldivian woman who passed away on April 29. The COVID-19 deaths recorded in the Maldives include 7 Maldivians, 4 Bangladeshis and 1 Filipino.
