Aasandha Company Limited has revealed 59 Maldivians have been transferred to India for advanced medical treatment.
The state-owned company administering and managing the national health insurance scheme stated the 10 patients and 10 aides were transferred to Cochin and 49 patients and 49 aides were transferred to Trivandrum. The patients transferred to Cochin will be treated from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (AIMS) and the patients transferred to Trivandrum will seek treatment from the Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). Aasandha said a team of doctors and nurses travelled with the patients to ensure their health during transportation.
The government of India facilitated the transfer of Maldivians in need of urgent treatment not available in the Maldives, upon the request of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. All patients transferred to India will undergo quarantine at an accommodation block inside the hospitals. They will undergo treatment during the quarantine period.
Aasandha utilises a flight from the national airline, Maldivian, to transfer local patients for treatment in India. Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the flight which travelled to India will return with 26 Maldivians stranded in India.
