Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has stated it has conducted over 50,000 tests for COVID-19 thus far.
The government of the Maldives worked together with the World Health Organisation (WHO) to establish testing facilities in IGMH before the first COVID-19 cases were reported in the Maldives on March 7. Over 75% of the total test done in the Maldives was conducted in IGMH.
Initially, it took the state-run hospital 10 to 12 hours to release the test results. However, the hospital can now release test results within 6 hours.
The government is working with private parties and the WHO to establish other facilities in the country. In addition to IGMH, testing facilities are also established at ADK Hospital, Maldives Police Service (MPS), and Maafaru International Airport. The government has also set up testing facilities in 6 regional hospitals using GeneXpert Cartridges.
