COVID-19 cases in the Maldives exceeds 3,000

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 3,044.

The positive cases reported in the country include 1,314 Maldivians and 1,730 foreigners. HPA said 600 individuals are currently undergoing treatment for COVID-19 in the Maldives, including 53 individuals who have been hospitalised. A total of 2,397 individuals have made full recoveries from COVID-19, while 15 the country has recorded 15 deaths.


The Maldives reported its first COVID-19 cases on March 7. The first COVID-19 death recorded in the Maldives was that of an 83-year-old Maldivian woman who passed away on April 29. The COVID-19 deaths recorded in the Maldives include 10 Maldivians, 4 Bangladeshis and 1 Filipino.

As per the statistics publicised by the HPA, a total of 68,696 samples have been collected to test for COVID-19.
