Number of COVID-19 tests conducted by MPS reaches 10,000

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has stated the number of COVID-19 tests conducted by its forensic laboratory has reached 10,000.

In a tweet posted on July 22, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed acknowledged the relentless efforts of the forensic team of MPS in conducting COVID-19 tests in the Maldives. He noted approximately 1,000 validated PCR test results are produced every week, along with hundreds of forensic evidence in case work every month.

MPS began conducting PCR tests for COVID-19 in its forensic laboratory in April. While MPS has conducted over 10,000 tests, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has conducted over 50,000 tests across 3 PCR machines. In addition to IGMH and MPS, PCR testing facilities have also been established in ADK Hospital and Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH).

The latest statistics from Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed over 68,000 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the Maldives, while the number of positive cases has exceeded 3,000. There are currently 617 active cases, with 53 individuals undergoing treatment at hospitals. Meanwhile, 2,397 individuals have fully recovered from COVID-19 in the Maldives.
