Contract signed to develop neighbourhood fish processing plants in Addu City

Contracts have been signed for the development of neighborhood fish processing plants in the wards of Maradhoo and Hulhudhoo in Addu City.

The contract signing ceremony held in Addu City was attended virtually by Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed and High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Sunjay Sudir as well as the parliamentarians representing the two constituencies.

Speaking at the event, Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor highlighted the signing of contracts for the development of fish processing plants in Addu City is a beacon of hope for the development of key social and economic infrastructure, and to boost the economy and attract private investments for Addu City. In addition, the foreign secretary noted this will enable the communities to overcome the various challenges they face in fisheries sector, which is a primary economic activity and the largest source of employment in local communities.

The projects are undertaken under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on March 17, 2019, for the ‘Indian Grant Assistance for Implementation of High Impact Community Development Projects through local bodies’.
