Aasandha Company Limited has revealed three Maldivians transferred to India for advanced medical treatment have passed away.
The three Maldivians who were transferred to India under a special permit from the government of India had been critically ill cancer patients. The state-owned company administering and managing the national health insurance scheme said the three patients died on July 16, 17 and 18 respectively.
Under a special permit extended by the Indian government, Aasandha has been transferring Maldivian patients who require advanced medical treatment unavailable from the Maldives. As such, 28 patients travelled to India on June 28 and 49 travelled on July 14. The three who had passed away were amongst the patients who travelled on July 14.
Aasandha said an additional group of patients will travel to India on July 28. All Maldivian patients transferred to India will undergo treatment from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) and Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS).
