Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) has stated it is currently treating the highest ever number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals.
Speaking at a news conference held at the HEOC, Spokesperson Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said 63 COVID-19 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals with one expatriate placed on ICU ventilator. She said the number of cases has increased significantly over the past few weeks despite measures from the authorities to contain the spread of COVID-19. HEOC has projected a higher death rate if COVID-19 patients require treatments from hospitals.
Maldives recorded 67 cases on July 27 and 50 cases on July 26. In total, the Maldives has recorded 3,369 cases, of which 792 are active cases.
