Health Protection Agency (HPA) has warned business establishments that do not comply with the safety guidelines will be shut down.

HPA revealed a follow-up of the mass public health inspection has been launched in the Greater Male' Region to inspect whether establishments adhere to the COVID-19 safety guidelines for cafés and restaurants, shops, gyms and fitness centres, salons and markets. The agency revealed any establishment identified that do not comply with the safety guidelines will be shut down after the inspection.

HPA would be conducting the inspection in collaboration with the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA), Ministry of Economic Development, Male' City Council, Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO), Maldives Police Service (MPS) and Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC). HPA revealed the inspection will be carried out in Male', Villimale', Hulhumale' and Thilafushi.

As a result of the detection of COVID-19 in the capital city, a lockdown was imposed in the Greater Male' Region on April 15. Business establishments were opened for the public on July 1 under guidelines to be implemented in new normal conditions.

HPA has called for public support and cooperation in implementing the required precautionary measures against COVID-19, in order to contain the spread of the disease.
