93 police officers infected with COVID-19

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed 93 police officers and staff have been infected with COVID-19.

In a tweet, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed said 93 officers and staff of MPS have contracted COVID-19 thus far, including 56 active cases. He noted MPS continues to deliver leadership, resources and support for the national level efforts against COVID-19, while taking stricter internal measures to mitigate the spread of the disease.

Meanwhile, Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) had also revealed the number of frontline workers testing positive for COVID-19 has increased in recent weeks. As such, HEOC noted police officers and health professionals, including doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, radiographers, attendants and technical staff have been testing positive for COVID-19 at an alarming rate.

Frontline workers have been putting a collective and a continuous effort to contain the spread of COVID-19 and run essential services in the country amidst the pandemic.
