COVID-19 cases in the Maldives exceed 5,000

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 5,041.

HPA stated 143 new positive cases on August 9, taking the total number of cases reported in the country to 5,041. HPA revealed 2,218 individuals are currently undergoing treatment for COVID-19 in the Maldives, including 129 individuals who have been hospitalised. A total of 2,804 individuals have made full recoveries from COVID-19, while 19 people have succumbed to the disease in the Maldives.

The Maldives reported its first COVID-19 cases on March 7. The first COVID-19 death was recorded in the Maldives on April 29.
