COVID-19 cases in the Maldives exceed 6,000

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen above 6,000.

HPA reported 170 new positive cases on August 19, taking the total number of cases reported in the country to 6,079. HPA revealed while 170 individuals were tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 24 hours, 169 individuals were from Greater Male’ region.

HPA revealed 2,407 individuals are currently undergoing treatment for COVID-19 in the Maldives, including 144 individuals who have been hospitalised. HPA noted apart from Male’, active cases have been detected in 18 islands and 13 resorts.

A total of 3,648 individuals have made full recoveries from COVID-19, while 24 people have succumbed to the disease in the Maldives.
