The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) of Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has expressed concerns over the increasing number of people who are avoiding medical care, despite displaying COVID-19 symptoms.
Speaking to PSM News, Dr. Mohamed Ali from TAG said some individuals who display COVID-19 symptoms and avoid consulting a doctor are later diagnosed after their condition becomes critical. He also noted avoiding care while displaying symptoms would also elevate the risk of spreading the disease among others.
The doctor further said the COVID-19 situation in the Maldives is currently worrying as COVID-19 is rapidly spreading among high-risk individuals such as elderly people and individuals with long-term illnesses. He noted over 180 COVID-19 patients are currently admitted in hospitals and medical facilities in the Maldives.
Dr. Mohamed Ali urged the public to seek medical attention without any delays if COVID-19 symptoms develop.
