Maldives has recorded the highest number of daily COVID-19 cases from atolls on September 1, with a reported 199 cases in the past 24 hours.
Statistics publicised by Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed 168 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the Greater Male’ Region in the past 24 hours. In addition, 31 tested positive from atolls, which is the highest number of daily cases confirmed in atolls. The confirmed cases in the past 24 hours include 145 locals, 42 Bangladeshis, 5 Indians, 3 Sri Lankans, 2 Americans in addition to a Chinese, a Japanese and a Pilipino national.
HPA stated 41 islands and 16 resorts have reported COVID-19 cases thus far. The reported cases include 16 tourists and 29 staff working in resorts. The islands currently under monitoring are Maaemboodhoo and Kudahuvadhoo in Dhaalu Atoll and Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
The latest statistics from HPA revealed the number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 8,003 including 2,703 active cases, 5,265 recoveries, and 29 deaths.
