COVID-19 death toll in the Maldives rises to 31

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed another two individuals have passed away from COVID-19 in the Maldives, taking COVID-19 death toll in the country to 31.

HPA said a 60-year-old Maldivian male admitted at the ICU of Hulhumale’ Medical Facility passed away at approximately 1824hrs on September 9. HPA later announced a 58-year-old Maldivian male, who passed away while undergoing treatment for cancer and in quarantine in Kelaa, Haa Alifu Atoll, had also tested positive for COVID-19.

The latest deaths have taken the COVID-19 death toll in the Maldives to 31. So far, 24 Maldivians and 7 expatriates have passed away from COVID-19 in Maldives.

The Maldives has detected 8,741 COVID-19 cases since March 7. Currently, there are 2,553 active cases in the country, including 139 patients who have been hospitalised.
