Aeroflot resumes weekly flights to the Maldives

The leading Russian airline, Aeroflot, has resumed weekly flights to the Maldives.

The airline resumed its operations to the Maldives after a suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A brief press release by Aeroflot revealed the airline has scheduled two services per week between Moscow and Male’, with arrival flights scheduled for Thursdays and Sundays and return scheduled for Fridays and Sundays.

Russia is the 4th most important market to the Maldives based on figures from January 2020. In 2019, the Russian market showed a 17.5% growth in arrivals to the Maldives.

The resumed flights from Russia will boost effort of the Maldives to revive the tourism-dependent economy. Since Maldivian borders were reopened for tourists on July 15, 423 tourists have arrived from Russia.

Aeroflot is the eighth airline to resume operations to the Maldives since reopening borders. Currently, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Sri Lankan Airline, Turkish Airline, Air India and IndiGo operate to the Maldives.
