Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom has been released from hospital after making a full recovery from COVID-19.
Maumoon was admitted at Dharumavantha Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 on August 25. After undergoing treatment for over two weeks, the former president confirmed via a tweet on September 14 that he has made a full recovery and has been released from hospital. In his tweet, he prayed for a speedy recovery and good health for all individuals who have contracted COVID-19 or other illnesses.
Maumoon served as the President of the Maldives from November 11, 1978 to November 11, 2008. He is still active in the politics as the leader of Maldives Reform Movement (MRM), one of coalition partners of the current administration.
