Ministry of Tourism has revealed 164 tourist facilities had provided services during August.
Statistics of the tourism ministry revealed 971 facilities had been registered to provide services for tourists by the end of August, which is 5.5% higher than the 892 facilities registered by the end of August 2019. The total number of beds available from the registered facilities is 52,460.
However, the statistics revealed the number of facilities which had provided services for tourists in August was 164. The number of beds available at the active facilities was 19,223. The bed occupancy rate in August was recorded as 11.3%, compared to 62.4% in August 2019.
Maldives reopened its borders for tourists on July 15, more than three months after borders were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Resorts and liveaboards have been permitted to resume operations since July 15, while local guesthouses in the atolls will be permitted to reopen on October 15. However, hotels and guesthouses in the Greater Male’ Region will remain closed until the COVID-19 situation improves in the capital.
As per the statistics, 399,252 tourist arrivals have been recorded in the Maldives this year by the end of August. This is 65.1% lower than the figure recorded at the end of August 2019.
