Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed 63 new cases of COVID-19 and 79 recoveries were detected on October 1.
HPA said the new cases reported on October 1 included 31 locals and 32 expatriates. Out of the 63 new cases, 51 were reported from the Greater Male’ Region and the remaining 12 cases were reported from the atolls. Meanwhile, 79 individuals had fully recovered from COVID-19 on October 1.
A total of 10,354 cases have been reported in the Maldives since COVID-19 was first detected in the Maldives in March. This includes 1,133 active cases, 9,187 recoveries and 34 deaths. 79 patients are currently hospitalized, while a further 573 individuals are in isolation facilities.
The COVID-19 testing capacity of the Maldives has grown significantly in recent weeks, with the availability of additional testing facilities. As such, 1,628 samples were tested in the last 24 hours as compared to the average of 1,000 samples which used to be tested per day during previous months.
The number of active cases have dropped in recent weeks as more recoveries are being reported compared to the number of new cases. As a result, the COVID-19 hospital bed occupancy has also decreased in recent weeks.
As of October 1, there are active cases in 24 islands and 21 resorts apart from the Greater Male’ Region.
