The UAE state-owned flag carrier airline, Emirates, has decided to increase its scheduled operations to the Maldives.
Currently, Emirates operates 6 weekly flights between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Velana International Airport (VIA). Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said the airline will launch daily operations to VIA from October 7.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Emirates temporarily halted its commercial operations although the airline is now restarting operations for various destinations. Emirates resumed its operations to Maldives on July 16, one day after the Maldives reopened its borders.
The airline initially began operating five flights a week between VIA and DXB on Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. However, to meet the demands, Emirates began operating 6 weekly flights from August 4.
Emirates stated it has implemented a comprehensive set of measures at every step of the customer journey to ensure the safety of its customers and employees on the ground and in the air, including the distribution of complimentary hygiene kits containing masks, gloves, hand sanitiser and antibacterial wipes to all customers.
As per the statistics of Maldives Immigration, 2,607 tourist arrivals were recorded from UAE between July 15 and September 23.
