Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) begins Phase 2 of the road development project in Dhuvaafaru, Raa Atoll.
The second phase of the road development project in Dhuvaafaru was officially inaugurated during a special ceremony held in the island. The ceremony was attended by CEO of MTCC Adam Azim, Minister of State for National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Akram Kamaluddin and the Parliamentarian for Dhuvaafaru constituency Ismail Ahmed.
Speaking at the ceremony, CEO Adam Azim revealed 7 roads will be developed in Phase 2 of the project, in addition to the 12 roads currently being developed under Phase 1. He said the project is expected to be completed by mid-2021.
The scope for the road development project in Dhuvaafaru includes asphalt paving on carriageways, concrete paving on walkways, installation of a stormwater drainage system and cable junction boxes. MTCC said the stormwater drainage system has been designed with emphasis on infiltration rather than pumping, in order to ensure the freshwater lens of the island is replenished. The project costs USD 5.45 million, including USD 3 million for Phase 1 and USD 2.45 million for Phase 2.
MTCC revealed 70% of the first phase of the project has now been completed, noting the first phase is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
