COVID-19 death toll in the Maldives rises to 36

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed a 67-year-old Maldivian male has passed away from COVID-19.

HPA said the man passed away at approximately 0700hrs on October 17, while undergoing treatment at the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility. This is the 36th COVID-19 death recorded in the Maldives, and the second in October. So far, 29 Maldivians and 7 expatriates have passed away from COVID-19 in the Maldives.

As per the statistics of HPA, there are currently 1,123 active cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives, including 49 patients admitted in medical facilities for treatment. A total of 11,154 cases have been reported in the Maldives since COVID-19 was first detected in the country on March 7.
