British Airways has resumed direct flight operations to the Maldives.
British Airways resumed its operations to the Maldives with a flight that arrived from London on October 17. The airline revealed it will operate 3 weekly flights between London Heathrow Airport and Velana International Airport. As such, flights will arrive in the Maldives from London on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday while flights will depart from the Maldives on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
British Airways commenced direct flights to Maldives in 2015. The operations were suspended due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
British Airways joins a list of major international airlines which have resumed flights to the Maldives, since the country reopened its borders on July 15. Stakeholders of the tourism industry have noted the resumption of British Airways flights to the Maldives is an important milestone in the recovery of the country’s tourism industry, as the airline is one of the major carriers of tourists to the Maldives.
Other airlines which have resumed operations to the Maldives include Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Sri Lankan Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Air India, IndiGo and Aeroflot. Meanwhile, Flydubai, SilkAir and Lufthansa have also announced plans to resume flights to the Maldives soon.
