Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has revealed guesthouses in the Greater Male’ Region could be permitted to reopen next month.
Speaking to PSM News, Minister Mausoom said guesthouses in the capital can only be reopened upon the approval of Health Protection Agency (HPA). Considering the current situation of COVID-19 in the capital, the minister expressed hope guesthouses in the Male’ Region could be permitted to reopen by mid-November. However, he noted it largely depends on the COVID-19 numbers and the developing situation in the capital.
The tourism minister had previously stated guesthouses in the Male’ Region will be permitted to reopen after completing two weeks in the Green Zone, where the number of new cases do not exceed 5%. He noted this can be achieved through the collaborative efforts of all.
Guesthouses in the atolls were permitted to reopen on October 15, 212 days after guesthouses were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tourism ministry revealed 29 guesthouses have so far resumed operations.
