Switzerland has declared the Maldives as a safe travel destination, removing the need for Swiss tourists visiting the Maldives to isolate themselves upon return.
The Federal Office of Public Health of Switzerland removed the Maldives from the updated Risk Countries List issued this week. Therefore, Swiss tourists who visit the Maldives will no longer be required to undergo quarantine upon return.
Meanwhile, Swiss leisure airline, Edelweiss, has also restarted scheduled flights to the Maldives, after suspending the service due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline operates two flights between Zurich and Male’ every week.
Switzerland is an important market for the Maldivian tourism industry. Swiss tourists represent a significant percentage of tourist arrivals in the Maldives, with over 33,000 tourists arriving from Switzerland last year.
