Ministry of Tourism has revealed the number of tourist arrivals in October have doubled in comparison to the numbers recorded in September.
As per the latest statistics of the tourism ministry, 18,601 tourist arrivals were recorded between October 1 and October 28. This is a two-fold increase compared to the 9,538 tourist arrivals recorded in September.
Since reopening of borders on July 15, a total of 37,468 tourists have visited the Maldives. Only 1,752 arrivals were recorded in July, while this figure increased to 7,628 in August.
Tourist arrivals have increased steadily this month, with the resumption of flights from several international carriers. The daily average of tourist arrivals in October has increased to over 600 per day, compared to 318 in September, 246 in August and 117 in July.
Russia has contributed the largest number of tourists to the Maldives since borders were reopened. As such, 7,507 tourists have arrived from Russia since July 15. Meanwhile, 3,479 tourists have arrived from the UAE and 3,056 tourists have arrived from the US during this period.
Meanwhile, the statistics revealed Emirates is the top carrier of tourists to the Maldives since borders were reopened. As such, 14,987 tourists have arrived from the Emirates between July 15 and October 25. Meanwhile, 14,690 tourists have arrived from Qatar Airways during this period.
The statistics indicate the total number of tourist arrivals recorded in the Maldives this year is 420,315, which includes the arrivals recorded before borders were closed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
