Average of 4 private jets land in Maafaru every day: IASL

Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) has revealed an average of 4 private jets currently land in Maafaru International Airport on a daily basis.

IASL, which operates Maafaru Airport, revealed the number of private jets landing in Maafaru has increased steadily since borders were reopened on July 15. As such, IASL revealed 11 jets had landed in July, while 14 and 13 landings were recorded in August and September respectively. IASL stated 36 private jets have landed so far in October, with an average of 4 jets per day.

Most of the jets landing in Maafaru carry tourists travelling to resorts in Noonu Atoll. The atoll has a large number of luxurious resorts.

Maafaru International Airport was opened for scheduled flights on January 1, 2020. The airport was built from a grant of USD 60 million provided by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD). The airport has a 2,200-metre-long and a 40-metre wide runway and is designed to handle the largest aircraft in operation including the Airbus A380 super jumbo jets.
