Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) has revealed 17 samples out of 20 random samples collected from Kandima Maldives Resort tested positive for COVID-19.
HEOC stated a team from Dhaalu Atoll Hospital is in the resort to collect additional samples and to do contact tracing. HEOC said efforts are also underway to transfer individuals categorised as high-risk to a facility. HEOC added tourists in the resort can only leave if they are not identified as a contact and upon presenting a negative PCR test result.
On October 30, a 60-year-old local employee in the resort passed away. Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed his samples came positive for COVID-19, recording his death as the 38th COVID-19 death in the Maldives. Kandima resort is now under monitoring.
