Resort to be allocated to quarantine resort staff and tourists

Ministry of Tourism has decided to allocate a resort to isolate and quarantine resort staff and tourists.

The tourism ministry revealed a resort is set to be allocated to isolate and quarantine resort staff and tourists who test positive for COVID-19 or become direct contacts of a positive case. The ministry called on interested parties to submit a proposal to allocate a resort for quarantine purposes.

The tourism ministry announced the quarantine resort must be located in either Male’ Atoll, Ari Atoll or Felidhe Atoll. The resort must have a minimum of 50 rooms and must be available for no less than 3 months. The resort must also comply with all health and safety regulations set by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

The ministry announced interested parties can seek further clarification during the online meeting scheduled for November 10, and submit the proposal by November 16. The ministry said a resort will be selected upon evaluation of all proposals.

Tourist arrivals in the Maldives have been increasing steadily since borders were reopened on July 15. As per the statistics of HPA, there are active COVID-19 cases in 27 resorts across the Maldives. The active cases include 35 tourists and 81 staff.
