Action to be taken against tourist facilities violating HPA guidelines

Ministry of Tourism has warned tourist facilities which violate the guidelines of Health Protection Agency (HPA) will have their permits revoked.

In a circular published on November 5, the tourism ministry said resorts and guesthouses were permitted to resume operations based on the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) set in accordance to the HPA guidelines. Noting some resorts and guesthouses have been violating the SOP and HPA guidelines after resuming operations, the tourism ministry warned the permits of such facilities will be revoked without prior notice. The ministry called on all resorts and guesthouses to comply with HPA guidelines for the safety of tourists, staff and the whole community.

Resorts and liveaboards were permitted to resume operations on July 15, following the reopening of borders. Meanwhile, guesthouses in the atolls were permitted to resume operations on October 15. So far, 117 resorts, 120 liveaboards and 53 guesthouses have been permitted to resume operations in the Maldives.
