A PCR testing laboratory has been established in Dharavandhoo, Baa Atoll.
The PCR laboratory was established in Dharavandhoo Health Centre, with assistance from two resorts in Baa Atoll. The laboratory was officially inaugurated by Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem during an online ceremony held on November 10.
Speaking at the ceremony, Health Minister Naseem said the project highlights the importance given by those working in the tourism sector to develop health facilities in the Maldives. The minister called on resorts and local councils across the Maldives to follow the example in Dharavandhoo, and work together to develop the health sector.
The PCR laboratory in Dharavandhoo will commence its services on November 12. Dharavandhoo Health Centre revealed the laboratory can test 96 samples per hour. The health centre said the laboratory will conduct PCR tests in accordance to the guidelines of Health Protection Agency (HPA).
Meanwhile, the resorts which assisted the establishment of the laboratory stated the laboratory will increase the confidence of tourists travelling to the region, and help to revive the number of tourist arrivals. The resorts stated this was an important step in ensuring the safety of tourists as well as staff working in the resorts.
The ceremony to inaugurate the PCR laboratory was also attended by Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom and senior management of the two resorts.
