Local travel agency, Inner Maldives Private Limited has revealed efforts are underway to commence winter tour flight operations to Gan International Airport in Addu City.
In a social media post, Managing Director of Inner Maldives Mohamed Firaq said the agency is looking for hotels, resorts and guesthouses for international tour operator contracts for the southern atolls of the Maldives. Firaq said the planned winter tour operations will use Gan International Airport as the hub. He said the target market is the Middle East.
Speaking to PSM News regarding the announcement, Firaq said the plan is to connect Gan with UAE. He said the airline used in the winter tour operations will be an airline which currently operates to the Maldives. However, he did not disclose the name of the airline. Firaq said although the operations are currently planned for the winter season, operations will be increased if it is sustainable.
International flight operations in Gan have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A date has not yet been provided for the resumption of international flights to Gan.
